BE THE PARENT THEY NEED
The society is in a deep, long sleep. Nothing is being done; the so-called village elders are ignoring their role. What they used to do in the 19th century has been abandoned because of a new era, an era which is controlled by AI and the internet. In fact, we have forgotten so much that we now allow what used to be an offence to be a guide in today's life. Yes, the world is changing, and we are expected to adjust. But...is it really an adjustment? Leaving behind beliefs, values and guidance ain't adjustments, rather neglects. And as we know, neglects are paid later, even to the 10th generation.
What you teach your child today should be what you will feel proud of in maybe 2040, if blessed to reach there. How well do you teach your kids values, church and roles respectively? Are you a parent who sits back and watches? Or the one who would look into the issue and solve it before it escalates to a negative perspective. When you decided to become a parent, it was a decision and choice. The only people spared are those of rape cases and maltreatment.
Giving your child the best is setting the right examples, telling them that what they are doing is wrong. That doesn't mean that you don't love them, but mean standing for what is right. Also, being with them physically, emotionally, and spiritually during their tough times is key. Let the love and ties you shared during their childhood be an endless one. Be close to them, please; they need you, hear their pleas.
The things we see today are concrete evidence of yesterday's teachings. If you teach and encourage your girl child to believe that walking naked is normal, she will nurture it and later use it as a tool for prostitution. On the other hand, if you say that helping is wrong, he will automatically know that that's a waste of time. He will even leave a dying soul to misery just because Mama or Papa said.
Remember kids, never forget, even in old age, we tend to remember the harsh words, cold treatments and the untold 'thank you' from our parents.
Let us rise and try raising them in better ways. They are the future husbands, wives, presidents and employees who need to be nurtured the right way. Fight for their rights, criticise bad behavior and correct wrongdoings. Wasije wakavunja guu kwa sababu ya kukosa maelekeo dhabiti kimsingi.
Be the parent they need.
