MONEY CAN'T BUY....

Good health is fundamental to personal and societal development, encompassing physical, social, and economic well-being. Without health, one's capacity to function and achieve is severely limited. Illness often leads to discomfort, instability, and anxiety, hindering even minor activities and fostering a sense of defeat. Conversely, good health promotes physical vitality, economic potential irrespective of current financial status, and mental fortitude by alleviating pain. While affluence can confer respect and honor, it offers no immunity to serious illness. A billionaire diagnosed with a terminal disease, for instance, faces a profound threat that can deplete resources and ultimately lead to demise, regardless of social standing or responsibilities. In the face of sickness and death, one's status is irrelevant; all individuals face these realities equally. A common adage suggests that while people may disregard you, illness should not be underestimated, often invoked when pro...

DONT LET STRESS PIN YOU DOWN

Stress is a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances. The demanding circumstances may include negative actions or things impacting your mental stability. Being emotionally unwell may advance and lead to more harmful stages of anxiety, which interfere with the functionality of the brain. Sometimes you find yourself setting that ka-meeting with yourself, but when evaluating, the cause of the issue becomes mere yet the outcome is huge and unbearable. Stress can make you talk alone like a dimwit or even make a mess so huge like a tsunami. Before you tear down properties or even abuse mercilessly, there are some actions you can take to overcome the monster. Paying keen attention to yourself and pinpointing everything out should help you know when to begin the steps of healing, or rather, overcoming. Living healthily means avoiding all the negative things you think about, say, or do.      Effective stress managemen...

LOVE HER RIGHT

A wife is a companion. The Lord blessed and ordained marriage such that two join to become one. Partnership, even in business, has ground rules that are to be followed for success.  She is there as a mother, infact she is your mama, and she deserves respect, care, love, and to be cherished just as you do to your beloved mom. She leaves her home to be with you for the rest of her remaining days on earth. Imagine leaving people she has known since birth only to come and stay with a stranger. Someone she doesn't trust, know or even feel. Yes, love is a choice, a choice that comes deep down, interfering with normal body functions. A choice that brings heartache, stress, depression or even death when placed wrongly. When a man marries, he brings 'problems' as they say nowadays. But why do you see her as a problem, and why do you even engage yourself in problems? Why don't you just be celibate or a priest to avoid the so-called 'problem'?  Our grandparents didn't g...

MY FATHER'S ADVICE...

Not everything will go as you expect in your life. There are ups and downs. This is why you need to drop expectations and go with the flow. Reduce bitterness from your life, that shit delays blessings! You need blessings to keep going. Dating a supportive woman is everything. A supportive woman will help you achieve and develop. If you want to be successful, you must respect one rule - Never lie to yourself. Self-respect is key.  If your parents always count on you, don't play the same game with those who count on their parents. They are not the same, based on life status and behavioral critics. Chase goals, not people. Goals will take you higher; concentrate on making them valid. Chasing people comes with emotional disgrace and downfalls. Skills matter in every aspect of life.  Your 20's are your selfish years, build yourself, choose yourself first at all costs. Before you think of doing unto others, always choose yourself first. Self-reliance, self-care and se...

VOICE OF THE BOY CHILD

As much as we aspire to have male children, we are supposed to acquire knowledge in all aspects and in stages required appropriately. The oldest society valued the boy child compared to the girl child. Most heavy duties and taking care of the family were their task. They could look after their mothers even after the passing of the father since it was a mandate, one that couldn't be escaped. Training was done by the elders who made sure that boys were well equipped with skills to empower them and make them good fathers and elders, 'the face of tomorrow.' The core values of the society stipulated that the man was the head of the family and was expected to take good care of the coming generation without a mess. They were also expected to solve social, economic and political issues spotted. A lot has changed since the coming of the white man. Explorers came to bring changes, and they didn't just teach us about life; they ruined our lives. The betterness of the society start...

BLOOD ACCOUNTABILITY

While growing, I used to have cravings for a newborn. Having raised my siblings as a nanny was awesome and beautiful. Some days it was rough, but some were quite cute. Laughter took a bigger percentage than sorrow. We used to play, catch up and learn new dynamics. In short, life was at its best. Back then, family was formed by two: a father as the head and a mother as the house manager. Mama made sure that things were in place, as papa on his side, was the director of all things being done.  Yes, family was a basic unit, treasured and well taken care of. There were minimal breakups, and if they happened was after arrangements had been made by both families. If one got engaged with a kin, then the families could come to an agreement to end it, as it involves 'blood line' as my grandma put it. Family was cherished, and those with many children were valued since they were seen as a pillar of generational continuity. Being called mama or baba so and so was quite overwhelming and wa...

MOURNING SHOULD BE VALUED

Mourning is the emotional expression in response to a significant life event that causes grief, especially the loss of a loved one. It majorly occurs as a result of someone's death, especially a loved one. It, however varries depending on feelings and context. It is how much you meant when you were alive. On several occasions, one is allowed to mourn their loved one; the expression conveys how close the relationship was. In many cases, people wear a black robe as a sign of grief. Black represents the dark times, heartbreaking terrors and disbelief.  I write this piece with a heavy heart, mixed reactions and disbelief. I don't know how, but I truly know the what and who. Losing a family member or a friend ain't easy. It feels like a pinch or a bite of a siafu(ant), which leaves one with extreme pain. Death is indeed part of life, but one that does not knock. Unlike giving birth, death comes unexpectedly, and it hits hard, even beyond heartbreak. I'd rather have 100heartb...

HYGIENE IN LOVE

Love is an affection. It’s that strange feeling that binds us together. Your feelings about someone or something should be crystal clear. Just like glue binds two edges together in clarity, we are supposed to do the same. And being clear means simplicity, humbleness, and purity. The combination of the three aspects fosters a strong and steady bond between people, characterised by affection, as well as in how we perceive things. You say you love someone or something, but your intentions are impure. How then can you be accountable for your actions? When we discuss hygiene in love, we examine actions, words, attention, health status, communication, and connection. What is it that you do well to embrace love? You can’t be stingy with your actions and expect more from your partner. If you show respect and honour, then your partner will be ready to reciprocate. Don’t expect disrespect to change its colour when your turn comes. It’s like a two-sided sword, cutting on both e...

HEALTH FITNESS

Exercise is an activity that requires physical effort, carried out to sustain and improve health and fitness. It is often used for specific purposes such as reducing tummy, improving lung and heart power, and also to relieve the skin of its toxicity. Daily routine is key in controlling the body and its components, making it healthy at all times. It can be done in the gym, at home or on a pitch with good space.  Some of the effective home exercises include: squats, push-ups,lunges, planks, burpees, dancing, jumping rope and running. These are simple activities that can be done with ease; you only need to schedule every bit of it. Scheduling helps in fixing time properly without interfering with other things that need to be done on a daily basis. Another thing to consider is a conducive environment which helps during the process. Unlike dancing and squats, which can be done in a noisy place, the other components need a very peaceful environment. Yoga, for instance need meditation befo...

BE THE PARENT THEY NEED

The society is in a deep, long sleep. Nothing is being done; the so-called village elders are ignoring their role. What they used to do in the 19th century has been abandoned because of a new era, an era which is controlled by AI and the internet. In fact, we have forgotten so much that we now allow what used to be an offence to be a guide in today's life. Yes, the world is changing, and we are expected to adjust. But...is it really an adjustment? Leaving behind beliefs, values and guidance ain't adjustments, rather neglects. And as we know, neglects are paid later, even to the 10th generation.   What you teach your child today should be what you will feel proud of in maybe 2040, if blessed to reach there. How well do you teach your kids values, church and roles respectively? Are you a parent who sits back and watches? Or the one who would look into the issue and solve it before it escalates to a negative perspective. When you decided to become a parent, it was a decision and c...

YOU DESERVE BETTER

Every woman dreams of Mr Right, and every man dreams of a good wife... You call it 'wife material,' but I beg to differ. It is being a good wife, a wonderful mother and a beautiful image to society. You can have all of the qualities, but still fail to be 'wife material' simply because he knows what he is looking for in a woman. Men say they like what they see, ooh yeah, the figure, skin colour, beauty, among others. Yes, they fall for 'physical features...the mountains, rivers and the green vegetation, I mean, as it is. Women, on the other hand, fall for what they hear; what she is told is enough to make her say 'YES' even when he is not worth it. That's why most women end up being with a man of sweet words rather than one with looks. But later fell for some serious mess which only tore her to pieces, unrecognisable. You know the good thing with love is that it grows to show and bring out the true physical, emotional, spiritual and social values of a pe...

MEEKNESS IS NOT WEAKNESS

Matthew 5:1-12, known as the Beatitudes, opens Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, where he teaches that true blessedness belongs to the humble, merciful, pure in heart, and those persecuted for righteousness. These verses flip worldly values upside down, promising the kingdom of heaven, comfort, and satisfaction to those who rely on God. Verse 5 notes, ''Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land"  Meekness refers to the humble and gentle, not the aggressive.  This Bible verse reminds us that you can be humble and gentle no matter how strong you are, and choosing not to fight does not mean you are weak. It shows that you are strong enough to fight the opponent, but rather control yourself to avoid unnecessary dramas. We clearly notice that God doesn't like those who use their strength uncontrollably. He expects us to practice self-control, which is the best achieved way of conflict resolution in our lives.  The subject matter also refers to''power und...

SELF TRUST

Trust is reliability and truth. When someone asks whether you can be trusted, they tend to question your reliability, which is also an ability to believe in what you intend to do. Trusting in oneself is often costly, but it often brings peace, joy, and a sense of purpose that leads to positive change. Being reliable in yourself mean compounding the physical, emotional and even spiritual effort in making sure the end result is tangible.  Life is somehow tough, and the best thing to do is to keep trying until what you hope and work for bears the expected fruits. When you feel low and unable to do your do, the best thing to do is to pray and believe that things will turn around someday. The fate intended for each one of us is different, and that's why some get ahead while others wait for their turn to come. Overexpectation is quite disappointing, especially when you lack self-trust. You fail to believe in yourself and also fail to put measures needed for a push towards ...

MANNA FROM HEAVEN

Life is sweet when things go in the right direction. We tend to pray for good things and hope they unfold as expected. Throughout my life, I have experienced both rough and smooth moments, all of which were meant to build, strengthen, and shape me. Endurance has become a routine, and losing hope is never an option on this journey. No matter how many times I fall, I always get up and try again, even if it means doing so alone. 'Last man standing' has been my encouraging motto, and I continue to climb another step of the ladder. Among the blessings I've received, my children are the most precious. They constantly remind me that anything is possible—keep going. Their voices are sweet and, as scientists suggest, stronger than any covalent bond. The love between us is so strong and radiant; it reminds me that there is no gift more precious. They make me believe that everything is possible under the sun, as long as one puts in the effort to do the right things. Imagine having a l...

THE GOLDEN OLD DAYS

Do you ever feel so nostalgic that you wish you could return to the past and relive the beautiful childhood memories? Life in the village was incredibly sweet and pure. I often find myself in this situation and miss my younger self. I miss the good old days when we were young and grew up without hatred, greed, or selfishness. Those were wonderful times when we truly appreciated everything our parents, siblings, and extended family did for us. I'm referring to when our parents were both loving and strict, molding us with patience, much like a gardener tending to flowers, smiling at every bit of progress their efforts yielded. Yes, my parents were strict, and no wrongdoing went unpunished. The punishments were harsh and painful, but that very pain forged the strength in me to overcome any obstacle. My mother was formidable; she would beat me naked and then make me bathe in cold water before denying me food. But that was then. The trick was waiting until everyone fell asleep, then sne...

HAPPY EVE'S CELEBRATIONS

Image
Welcoming a new year is a blessing. It can feel like taking the final step on a long journey or completing a challenging treatment. Many of us hope for better days ahead, having given our best each day. While endings can be exhausting, they also reward our determination, courage, and countless efforts to improve, even if perfection remains out of reach. Blessings often accompany hard work and patience, even though we sometimes rely on luck. Some people may find success quickly, while others must wait for their opportunity, which can come at different times for everyone. We are often impatient when we need something, yet we may also keep others waiting when they seek our help. This challenges both our minds and our spirits. As the year comes to an end, just like a sailing ship docking, I take this chance to thank God for the good things He has granted and also for the bad days that were meant to teach me. And to remind everyone that God is indeed invisible, but his deeds a...

DETERMINATION IS KEY

Image
A predominant aspect of key developments in living organisms is their life cycle, which includes birth and death stages celebrated according to their phases. In between these, we engage in activities that can either lead to our downfall or success.  Determination is crucial at all stages, ensuring everything is appropriately handled. This, combined with focus, helps us achieve significant accomplishments that elevate our lives. When one is determined and applies effort to initiate plans, achieving big dreams becomes more certain. These dreams foster growth and development in the long run. For those aiming to climb higher in their careers, staying focused and employing smarter strategies to execute plans is essential.  You may aspire to be successful in education, marriage, politics, science, technology, or other fields. As the saying goes, there is light at the end of every tunnel, but this light shines only if you work smart, pray, remain determined, and focus on key factors ...

Love Allergy

Love is truly a beautiful thing. But have you ever considered why some people choose to remain single? Not just single, but completely unattached? You might disagree, but that's how it is. Love is a shared understanding and commitment between two people celebrating life's milestones. However, some individuals hurt others along the way, perhaps due to unfulfilled needs. When you notice your partner struggling, you should investigate the underlying problem rather than passively waiting for them to return to normal. And no, there's no such thing as 'normal' in relationships; they are often 'situationships' that make them abnormal. If you let ego, greed, and selfishness consume you, you'll never reach your goals. Instead, you'll be left lamenting your circumstances because they didn't align with your desires. Furthermore, don't prioritise your feelings over your partner's, as this can create an 'allergy' that shatters you beyond recog...

LIFE TRAIL

Many of us get broken, lost and unidentified because when life decides to mess with you,you become humble at its feet. Sometimes we get angry at small things not knowing what lesson they carry. The only option left is to invite your inner self to undergo every challenge you face because you have no option. For instance, breaking up with someone you most cherished and loved is devastating. It could be your parents, siblings, partner or even your kid. But do you know that that is just a lesson to learn? Sometimes you ask yourself questions without getting answers, but instead you got to trust your gut and let it go, because moving on is not a choice but an obligation to take for achieving mental stability. Even if you get drained, always remember that life itself is a lesson and every lesson must be learnt. There is no escape route no matter what or how you do it but rather be able to undergo the challenge for a better personal growth. Stay strong and positive as you wait for the tables to tu...
THE MASKS NIGHTMARE IN SCHOOLS   A policy is set aside for the regulation of Covid -19 in primary, secondary and higher institutions.  It is mandatory for every student to have at least two masks as part of measures to ward off covid-19, which led to closure of learning institutions 10 months ago. Students were necessarily not in school because of school fees arrears but rather because of insufficient masks and other requirements needed to control the pandemic. The ministry of education was in a race to procure masks for over 10 million school-going children in the country.  This plan was put in place but due to insufficient funds, the plan did not make it to the other side of the bridge. Therefore students were left with no choice, but to stay at home with their parents and guardians as they wait for the covid-19 cases to reduce. January 2021 arrives with expectations that students go back to school to resume learning. On January 2 nd 2021, students are welc...

IMPACTS OF CORONA PANDEMIC IN EDUCATION- 2020

When Kenyan schools closed their doors in March, after the first cases of COVID-19 were detected in the count ry, there were no alternative learning options. The committee in charge of overseeing schools reopening in Kenya has recommended that schools do not open until January 2021, and that’s only if the COVID-19 curve has flattened in the region''. Kenya does not have the infrastructure to handle a health crisis with the size and scope of the current pandemic. Social distancing is the best way to stop the spread of COVID-19 before it can overwhelm their health system. Kenya is also facing a shortage of resources – such as masks, hand sanitizers, and soap – to facilitate a safe return to school.  In the meantime, the government has introduced virtual learning sessions online, on television and on the radio, but most students cannot access these lessons as they do not have electronics or reliable internet access at home. For instance, secondary students in Kisumu...
